Issy's Coffee and Gift Shop

1 Duncombe Rd, Forest Town      066 172 3741     more than a year ago
Issy’s Coffee & Gift Shop, located at the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, was opened by Courtneigh Berstein in memory of her grandfather Israel Gurwicz – a Holocaust survivor saved by his Polish governess.

The café spills into the courtyard of the centre, and serves wholesome food, sustainably sourced Rwandan coffee, freshly baked treats, bagels and salads. On Friday's this is the place to pick up challah (kitka) bread (order in advance) and they also make a delicious babka. The café also stocks a range of gift items.

The centre is unique in bringing together the narratives of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe during World War II and the Rwandan Genocide that took place in the 1990s.
