In 1926 Latvia's most famous poet and playwright, Rainis, and Aspazija, one of Latvia's most renowned female writers, bought this house. For some strange reason Rainis preferred to live in the small guest cottage and to rent out the proper house during the summers, although he did occasionally complain that the tenants should turn down the volume on their gramophone. Today you can see where the writers lived and worked and look at some of their personal effects as well as their library which contains over 7,000 books in 11 languages.
