Going out in Kaliningrad in first and foremost great fun. Most bars and clubs are of a good standard and people are friendly and fun. Russians like to have fun and they enjoy a drink although a few things continue to surprise us or are worth noting. First off it’s unusual to find a place that is simply a bar. Nearly everywhere in the hospitality industry is trying to cover all options meaning that a place that looks like a pub or bar is likely to have as comprehensive menu as a place which considers itself a restaurant. The other thing that always strikes us is the number of occasions we see Russians drink vodka. Don’t believe the stereotype – you’re more likely to see a Russian in Kaliningrad drinking a beer, cocktail or imported spirit like Scotch whisky as knocking back shots of vodka.
