Silesia's history is determined by the region's industrial character. Socially, the region was always seen as conservative, with clearly established male and female roles. It is this kind of stereotype the current exhibition is challenging by displaying countless photographs proving the importance of the role of women in the Silesian industry over the past 150 years. The exhibition encourages us to look beyond the stereotype of a seamstress or a textile worker, in its place presenting women working in coal mining and in the arms industry. The selected photos represent virtually every type of photography – propaganda, document, journalism, and art.
