Between 1951 and 1960, Dalí had painted 100 watercolours in preparation for the publication of The Divine Comedy. These watercolours explored the many myths and elements of this magnificent work of literature by the great Dante Alighieri. The illustrations are considered by many to be the most creative total body of work ever by Dalí. The collection of Dali's works exhibited at Schoen Palace includes over 250 artworks owned by the Kesauri family. The artist's genius is omnipresent and unrestricted, his surreal imagination flows freely through his watercolour illustrations of The Divine Comedy. The visual power of his imagery offers levels into Dante's work that might not have been reached otherwise.
