The NI Secretary of State heads the NIO which is responsible for overseeing the NI devolution settlement and representing NI interests at UK Government level and UK Government interests in NI. The department also has responsibility for NI's national security as well as Human Rights, elections and legacy issues, including current ongoing public inquiries.
