Plac Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego

Once upon a time this square leading to the main train station was known simply as Plac Dworcowy - Station Square - and doubled as the long-distance bus station. Big changes started happening in 2005, when the new bus station opened on the other side of the tracks; a year later the behemoth Galeria Krakowska shopping mall was completed, and the square was renamed in honour of Polish politician, social worker, journalist, WWII emissary and war hero Jan Nowak-Jeziorański. In 2018 an enormous monument commemorating the controversial legacy of Polish Army colonel Ryszard Kukliński - who was a spy for the CIA during the Cold War - was unveiled here in the form of a huge fractured arch. Each winter the square also houses an ice skating rink and Christmas market.
