Almost perfectly placed between the train station and the market square - and only a short, scenic walk to either - the Pollera comes with a tradition dating back to 1834(!), and views over Plac Św. Duchy and the grand Słowacki Theatre. Upon entry, guests are greeted by a characteristic reception area, dominated by a colourful stained glass window designed by Stanisław Wyspiański, and lined with display cases filled with historical relics and mementoes. Wyspiański stayed here after his famous play 'Wesele' premiered at the nearby Słowacki Theatre, and the hotel was popular amongst Kraków's actors, writers and artists in the decades before World War II. Today the hotel retains a classic design, historical furnishings and secessionist touches that make it a refreshing departure from the modern minimalism of most upmarket hotels. Rooms are comfortable and come in a variety of configurations, some with better amenities and views than others. A full breakfast buffet is served each morning - walk-ins welcome.
