University Church of the Blessed Name of Jesus

  Pl. Uniwersytecki 1 ,   Old Town          (+48) 71 344 94 23     more than a year ago
This Late Baroque church has been ranked among the most beautiful in Central Europe. It's certainly the most impressive in Wrocław. The Jesuits built the church as part of the university complex in the late 17th century on the site of the Piast castle. Part of the castle structure can still be seen in the northern sacristy, the alcove at the far end of the church. The interior, painted to imitate marble and gilt, is very well preserved and most of the furnishings are original. Look up to see the fresco on the vaults; the figures are 18th-century depictions of natives from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. Visitors are given an audioguide which is available in five different languages. Donations suggested, but not required.

Open

Open 11:00-15:30, Sun 13:30-15:30.

If you take a tour of the University you can go up to the top of the Mathematical Tower where you have great views of the entire Old Town, which is where the last of these photos was taken.

If you're a baroque lover like me definitely go visit this church at first it's really wonderful and spectacular. There are no other churches in Wroclaw which beat this one as far as I know.To sum up this is the most spectacular church in Wroclaw (baroque style).
