Belgrade Zoo

Founded in 1936, Belgrade's Zoo is one of the oldest in all of Europe, while its location within the city's famous Kalemegdan Fortress also gives the premises a unique atmosphere and makes it easily accessible right in the centre of town. Currently occupying over seven hectares, the zoo boasts over 2,000 animals and nearly 300 different species - including rare white lions and white tigers, as well as Muja, who is said to be the world's oldest alligator. Also not to be missed are the fine series of mosaics covering the institution's outer walls - depicting various animals, they were created in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade.
