Fantasia di Yeya is a brainchild of Jelena Bukvić Atanasković, who's originally from Cetinje in Montenegro and now lives in Belgrade. Former Yugoslav monasteries inspired Jelena to create this authentic brand, and it actually became the first one with monastic patterns. It is an exceptional example of how one art springs from another. When this pattern is combined with contemporary trends it creates a real piece of art, suitable for a strong and modern woman. Waistbands seem to be the best example of this traditional influence. It is because a similar looking belt that was called ‘kanice’ was a part of every woman’s national costume in the Balkans. These waistbands are capable of making any piece of clothing, however simple, stand out. To make them Jelena would transfer this ornamental motif to jacquard ribbons made of taffeta or damask, or high-quality print on satin. Fantasia di Yeya offers home décor as well, so if you are not ready to redecorate your whole bathroom, just add a couple of these towels and they will do the trick, refreshing the space in a distinctive way. All her pieces are made from natural materials and are pleasant to wear, all are handmade also, which gives it even more value. In these times of machine-made everything, unique handiwork is rather innovative. Even though some might believe that it is hard, even impossible to combine modern and traditional into something worthwhile, Jelena’s clothing line shows the real art that springs from doing so. You can buy her designs in several stores, including Art for All, Fab Living and Beogradski izlog.
