One of the pleasures of living in Joburg is discovering the spaces that give the city its character. From homegrown fashion labels and streetwear cult favourites to unique homeware, pre-loved designer finds, and even shops that give back to animals in need, these stores are too good not to share. Each one tells its own story
–Â
whether it’s showcasing local makers, celebrating Mzansi creativity, or turning everyday shopping into something a little more special.

We've long admired Vicky Ross – from her work with 44 Stanley to her pop-up shopping experience withÂ
Andticks
 – so we’re thrilled to see the next chapter unfold. & by Andticks, a permanent store at Nine Yards
, is thoughtfully stocked with
fashion, ceramics, textiles, homeware, and art objects by independent South African designers. It’s all about quality materials, small runs, and pieces with personalityÂ
–Â
great for gifting or just to elevate your everyday.

Swanky, and unapologetically bold,
Boys of Soweto
opened its new flagship store – as sharp as the tailoring it’s known for – in October 2025. Founded in 2011 by
Vusumuzi “Bob” Ndima
, the label blends vintage township flair and
esbhujwa
(boujee) culture with contemporary luxury, earning features in
GQ
and collaborations with Palladium and Markham. It's also instantly recognisable for its signature monogram stamped on almost every piece.

Backed by a loyal online following, those cool vinyl and leather jackets taking over social media? That’s
Happyville
. Founded by
Lebo Serame
in 2017, the cult streetwear label evolved from viral favourite to a real-world home in Parkhurst in November 2025. Inside the store, you’ll find standout pieces – beanies, tees, cargo pants, and leather trucker jackets in yellows, burgundies, and indigos. Happyville proves that what starts on your feed can end up defining the street.

The old reimagined as new, the Old School x Bafana Bafana collaboration.

South Africa is a sporting nation through and through, and with the FIFA World Cup kicking off in June 2026 and Mzansi playing in the opening match, the hype is very real. Just in time for kickoff,Â
Old School
has teamed up with the South African Football Association to drop a limited run of Bafana Bafana knitted T-shirts, inspired by those timeless ’90s Kappa kits the team rocked during their glory days.
What started in a Stellenbosch dorm in 2019 – when brothers
Daneel
and
Stephan Steinmann
went searching for the perfect vintage Springbok rugby jersey and came up empty-handed – has grown into a full-blown sportswear success story. Today, Old School goes well beyond rugby, with knitwear collaborations spanning
Orlando Pirates
,
Kaizer Chiefs
, and
NBA Africa
, plus physical stores popping up across Joburg, from Mall of Africa to Sandton City and Rosebank Mall.

We spotted
The Ninevites
atÂ
Decorex in July 2025
and haven’t stopped thinking about their beautifully textured pieces since – so you can imagine our excitement that they’ve now opened shop at
44 Stanley
. Known for their handwoven wool rugs, cushions, and blankets, they celebrate texture, geometry, and African design in the most satisfying way, working with materials like mohair and other richly tactile fibres. We also love their statement wall hangings that instantly add warmth, depth, and a subtle 3D element to any room.
