There's more to St. Petersburg than err, St. Petersburg. The city acts as a great launch pad for a number of interesting day trips.
If you’d like to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, there are many places in St. Petersburg’s suburbs that can offer an escape! All can be reached by train or minibus from the city centre. Take a quiet walk around the gardens at Tsarskoe Tselo, visit the ‘Russian Versailles’ at Peterhof to see the impressive fountains, see the artist Repin’s estate, or stroll along the beaches of the Gulf of Finland. You can even explore the less touristy places, such as Oranienbaum, with its peaceful gardens, or Pskov, for some fresh air in medieval Russia.
