One of a network of newly built or renovated hostels-cum-youth centres that have opened around Slovenia over the past few years, MC Velenje is a first-rate budget accommodation option near Šalek Castle in the east end of the city. Beds are in huge 6/3-person dorms and doubles, some of which even have private bathrooms, and the rooms are located in separate wings of the building, which can be rented out in their entirety for more privacy. Common spaces include a large kitchen and dining area, a courtyard for smokers, and multi-purpose rooms for meetings, events, workshops and the like. Of course the premises are also home to the city's youth centre, as the MC in the name stands for Mladinski (or Youth) Center.
