Żarki

Stary Rynek, Żarki     more than a year ago
Found just 28km away from Częstochowa, this picturesque little town is in the heart of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. If you're in the area already, it would be a shame to pass by without at least a glance! As interesting as medieval castles and fortifications are (amidst all that natural beauty), small towns like Żarki show a side to Poland you may have never experienced in the country - small town life. Other than walking around to take in the atmosphere, the town's Old Mill Museum of Old Crafts provides an interesting insight to the trades of days gone by, and if history is your thing, the town has one of the largest Jewish cemeteries in the Jura Upland; it was here the Jewish community once comprised 60% of the population, their history dating back to the 16th century. For that true local feel, the old town market held every Saturday near a set of historical barns sees 500 sellers plying their trade with locally produced goods. If you're lucky, you may even see a regular folk music performance. For children, the town's Hokus Pokuss sweet manufacturer is a playful insight to how everyone's favourite treats are made. It's a small town, but it's certain to provide an insightful visit.
