Port Lotniczy Gdańsk im. Lecha Wałęsy (aka Gdansk Lech Walesa airport much to the sanguine of some local Polish language experts) is 8km west of Gdańsk centre in the Rębiechowo district. Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in traffic created mainly by low-cost airlines while the EURO2012 football championships saw the city committing to drastically improving the facilities and passenger handling potential of the airport.
