Kaunas

Trains

share
Trains depart from and pass through Kaunas to several destinations within Lithuania as well as a number of exotic locations abroad. All tickets can be bought from the windows located inside the main building. The general rule is that tickets stop being sold 10 minutes before a train's due to depart. With the exception of some international services, tickets can be bought on board trains from the conductor, for which a €2 commission is charged. Tickets within Lithuania can also be bought online in English from the Lithuanian Railways website at www.traukiniobilietas.lt. One thing worth remembering if you’re travelling on a budget is that unlike most countries in Western Europe, travelling by train in Lithuanian is cheaper than using the bus. Note that there are severe disruptions on the service between Kaunas and Vilnius at the time of writing, with a special bus service operating between Kaunas and Palemonas until some time during the autumn of 2019.
