Has it really been half a century already? Time really does fly. 50 years have passed since the original Woodstock made its mark on pop culture around the world, as young people turned their back on conflict on favour of peace, love and happiness. To celebrate the anniversary (and maybe to inspire similar thoughts in the youth of today), Berlin’s Wintergarten is hosting the magnificent Woodstock Variety Show, a three-hour bonanza of acrobatics, thrilling live performances and culinary delights, all to that famous soundtrack of Jimi, Janis, Joe and more. The show opens on August 7 but the official premiere takes place on August 15, the day on which the original Woodstock opened. The ethos of ‘make love, not war’ has never been more necessary than the modern day, and this could be the start of something special.
