We’re old romantics here at In Your Pocket, so you can bet your bottom cent that we’re seeking out the most alluring restaurants in Košice. The city is full of the things, helpful considering the quantity of beautiful people in town, and you’ll have no problem finding that perfect spot for a nerve-wracking first date. The array of cuisine more than helps out, meaning a romantic pizza is just as viable as a proper gourmet extravaganza. It all depends on your definition of romance, a subject we’re not quite ready to get into, not yet. Still, great food in a gorgeous location sounds about right, doesn’t it?
An immensely popular cafe and restaurant in the very centre of Košice, Slávia has been enchanting visitors with its grace and sophistication for well over a century. This is a callback to the days of empire, and it isn’t difficult to image noblemen and women spending their afternoons here, sipping coffee in the morning before moving on to some truly extravagant dishes later in the day. The a la carte menu is one of the best in town.
Košice’s premier pizzeria, good luck finding a seat at Zvon. It is quite spectacular just how busy this gets once the bellies start rumbling, to the point where you might need to eat outside of your usual lunchtimes to experience it. The pizza is the best in town, and the prices are way lower than they have any right to be.
If you’re unsure where to find us in Košice, the chances are we’ll be at Halmi Place. Stroll through the passage off of Hlavni at number 21, take a left before the umbrellas and stroll up the grand staircase, into a co-working coffee-drinking space of breathtaking magnificence. If you close your eyes tight enough, you might just be able to imagine being some sort of grand old noble, but we’re happy to sit with a cold lemonade, hot coffee or whatever else and live in the now. Quite possibly our favourite place in town.
A restaurant and hotel in the centre of town, Villa Regia brings professional service and high quality food to the table, both figuratively and literally. The menu is plenty varied but it is worth keeping an eye out for the lunch menus, tailor-made three course stunners for the hard of wallet.
Mr. Fish himself! It doesn’t get much more official than the actual Mr. Fish, or Pán Ryba in Slovakia. The finest fish place (or should that be plaice?) in Košice is found just a bait’s throw from Hlavna and is a darling little Mediterranean joint with plenty of love for the sea. The open kitchen is a nice touch, giving land-lubbers a view of the magic as it unfolds.
