Kilmarnock Rd, Shawlands

more than a year ago
The southside has come along way over recent years, moving on from  purely a residential area awash with the finest Victorian architecture and lush parks, to a part of town that is vibrant and exciting with a growing number of independent ventures, bars and clubs to rival other parts of the city. Shawlands is where it’s at and Kilmarnock Road runs through it . Here you’ll find Di Maggio’s, a must for good pizzas, pasta and the usual variety of Italian food. The resident magician at weekends is always a winner with the kids. Across the road is Stalks and Stems and Roots and Fruits where you can grab funky, fresh, flowers and fine, organic fruit, veg and bread. Just off the main street is Raw Vintage, a chic boutique offering not just vintage garments and jewellery from the 1920’s to the 80’s but a bespoke tailoring service. Designer wear from Vivienne Westwood, Free and Hilfiger are yours for the taking in Hayes, two shops next door to each other, for both guys and girls. If it ‘s contemporary jewellery you’re after then Kalo’s your place. From stunning silver pieces to bespoke diamond rings and trendy Pilgrim jewellery, it’s here and happening. Grab a bite to eat in Bella Napoli or Bacco before spending more dosh in Bower Bird, all very chi chi and decadent. Lots of luxurious and down right groovy gifts for the home, from scented candles to retro wellies, jewellery and chandeliers.
