Part travel museum, part family home and part wonderfully eccentric adventure park, Arkady Fiedler Literary Museum and Workshop celebrates the life and journeys of celebrated Polish writer and explorer Arkady Fiedler. Located in the family villa near Poznań, the museum gathers together souvenirs, artefacts and curiosities collected during expeditions across the globe, creating the impression that its owner may have just stepped out briefly in search of another continent. Outside, things become even more unexpected. A full-scale replica of Christopher Columbus’ Santa Maria sits in the garden alongside sculptures inspired by Easter Island statues, the Aztec calendar and Bolivia’s Gate of the Sun. There’s even a replica Hurricane aircraft honouring Polish pilots of the Battle of Britain. Enthusiastically personal and refreshingly unpolished, the museum feels less like a conventional institution and more like an invitation into a lifetime of curiosity, storytelling and slightly glorious obsession.
