Who knew you could have so much fun in a museum dedicated to death, dying, memorials and commemoration? Focusing mainly on Central European culture, it dissects the history of dealing with death, coffin design, cemetery landscaping, the rise of AIDS, the success story of cremation (the ultimate choice for 95% of Germans in the northeast), mourning fashion and more. Highlights include a series of 18th century English statues depicting the Dance of Death; “O woe my belly, I must die” says the cook and the exhibition about funeral rituals of various religions - don't miss the colourful chicken coffin or the video of the funeral strippers of Taiwan. Ask for the English tour brochure at the entrance as captions are in German. The shop sells wonderfully appropriate postcards, Lego skeletons and vampire heads.
