Lipce was founded in 1338, would fall under Prussian rule from 1793-1815, and was eventually located in Congress Poland (Part of the Russian Empire) between 1815–1915. It is during the latter time period that Lipce provided the setting for the novel Chłopi (ENG: The Peasants), written by Władysław Reymont, who won the 1924 Nobel Prize in Literature for this work. Internationally, both the book and the village of Lipce have gained attention via the 2023 animated-film adaptation, Chłopi, and has since been nominated for an academy award.

Reymont's prolific writing inspired the village to hold the annual artistic event 'Reymont's Day', which is joined by the local market fair, and showcases local produce, food stalls, exhibition fairs, performances by musical artists, and amusement parks! Other sites include a collection of traditional buildings at the Regional Museum (ul. Wiatraczna 10), Church of the Finding the Holy Cross (ul. Reymonta 45), the beautiful wooden St Joseph's Chapel (ul. Reymonta 40), and Domek Reymonta (ul. Golki 102), the Lineworker's House where the novelist stayed at various times between 1888–1891.
