Bałuty is one of the greenest neighborhoods in the city. The whole district is packed with parks (both large and small) as well as tree-laden streets connecting them. But one the best is easily Grey Ranks Park (Szarych Szeregi Park). The park was established in the heart of the former Jewish Ghetto, in an area that became a landfill after the war. But the 15ha-space was cleared out in the early 1960s to make way for the park. Now it’s a popular walking spot, with little winding paths, open fields, and secluded areas in the trees. In the southern part of the park, you can find a swimming pool, volleyball and badminton courts, a playground and more.
Like other parts of Bałuty, this park also has historic importance. Though it was established after the war, due to its place in the former ghetto, it’s the starting point of the Memorial Trail to the Victims of Nazi Genocide and it includes several important monuments to victims of the Holocaust.
