Lucerne

Summer activities

Summertime ...and the living is easy. The living definitely does get easy in summer, when life in Lucerne goes outdoors. A grand summer day is of course ideal for visiting a mountain peak or exploring the lake region, but Lucerne itself has plenty of urban summer easiness to offer. Bars and restaurants make the most of it with outside seating, and a few bars are real summer animals, coming out only when it's warm. Daytime temperatures are generally around 25°C (77°F) in July and August, and can at times go over 30°C (86°F). The rain mainly comes in thunderstorms – the so-called föhn-storms – which come from the south across the lake and can be quite violent. Otherwise, the lake is the favourite place to be and it's so clean you can swim in it - and everybody does (swimmers only!). We list a few highlights below.
