Izakaya Nozomi at Hotel Barabas proves that Japanese cuisine is so much more than sushi. We had the spicy pork ramen served with noodles, pork, spring onions, a boiled egg and sesame seeds. The noodles really absorbed the flavours of the ingredients and the broth was delicious. Gyoza (dumplings), tempura, meat, fish and hot and cold tapas-style dishes are also on offer. Inside you can expect traditional Japanese décor with lanterns and Japanese-style seating areas where you can enjoy your food while kneeling on a cushion in front of a low table. An izakaya, by the way, is a Japanese pub/snack bar where people hang around after work and Nozomi means hope, wish or desire. Ours were certainly fulfilled here.
