Sledding in Central Switzerland

more than a year ago
The snow doesn't settle too often in the centre of Lucerne, but when it does local folk head up to the back of the Conservatorium (map F-1) for city sledding. On milder winter days you may need to seek out a higher altitude for sledding possibilities. Both Mount Pilatus ( and Mount Rigi ( offer sledding routes, usually open Mid-December to the beginning of March. You can go up by cable car / train, rent sleds for around 10Sfr and down you go. Pilatus also rents snow bikes, airboards and minibobs, whereas Rigi has various runs and also offers snowshoe rental and night sledding for the more adventurous. Check the respective websites for more information. Be sure to have some good shoes and warm clothing, as it can get chilly on the mountains.
