Orvidas Garden

  Plungės 18, Gargždelė      (+370) 61 32 86 24     more than a year ago
Many legends have grown up around Vilius Orvidas (1952-1992), a Lithuanian artist with deep religious beliefs whose strange sculptures are located in the garden of the house he once lived in. Had he lived before the war or started sculpting 20 years ago, it’s unlikely that this place would exist, but thanks at least in part to his anti-Soviet feelings and the fact that he became a monk, Orvidas is a saint to many. The Orvidas Garden lies some 60km northeast of Klaipėda just outside the small town of Salantai and is an interesting pilgrimage for Christians and fans of Outsider Art alike.
