And then there was fire

Lunch at And then there was fire is best described as an experience. It starts as you enter Nirox Sculpture Park and amble between trees, artworks, and birdsong as you make your way to the restaurant, where leisurely time awaits against the backdrop of natural colours, textures, and materials in what almost feels like an impermanent space.

Started by restaurateurs Bernado Corti and Manuela Gutierrez of the popular Che Argentine Grill in Rosebank as a reinvention of the pavillion at NIROX into a restaurant, And then there was fire draws on the duo's love of cooking over open flames.

If you want to taste your way through the flavours that make a visit here so memorable, their selection of small plates is inspired by a coming together of cuisines – South African, Mexican, Peruvian – and Peruvian—and is designed to be shared. Refreshingly, the dishes prepared on the grill are not overly reliant on meat; they feature seafood and fish prominently alongside a smorgasbord of vegetarian and vegan-friendly ingredients.

It's a destination that warrants the drive out by serving up delicous food and drinks. It's elegant yet comfortable; perfect for a special celebration or simple treat. Shoes are optional and a stroll through the park a must.
