Put simply, the Batliner Collection is one of the most important collections of European Modernist art that exists on the planet. It is only apt then that the mass of magic is showcased at the Albertina, itself a hugely influential and important home of creativity in the world’s greatest cultural city. Everything from Impressionism to Russian avant-garde gets a showing here, along with some stunning pieces of German Expressionism and one of the most glorious collections of Austrian art that we’ve come across in our many years of searching the stuff out. A massive homage to Picasso rounds it all off, an apt way to end a truly tremendous exhibition. Herbert Batliner, you had quite the collection.
