Art born out of telephone conversations, numerous meetings in small apartments, gardens, construction sites and other places - this is the real art exhibited at Wrocław's BWA Gallery. It is the counter-culture art created in private, individual areas, born out of personal inspirations, independent of institutions and public cultural mechanisms. This art was given different names, first "counter-culture" in the 70s, then "alternative" in the 80s, but its sole purpose was always "to correct" the mainstream culture. Driven by commercialism, main art institutions are often tempted to cater to the established artists' names, instead of constantly searching for new, innovative art. Thus, this type of art is often found in private spaces or galleries run by artists themselves. The exhibition at the BWA gives a glimpse into today's counter-culture art.
