In a double bill of fantastical other-worldly glory, heavy metal bands EPICA and KORPIKLAANI will rock out in Wrocław at the end of summer in 2020. Hosted by wROCKfest.pl in the city's Centennial Hall & Discovery Centre, this is an event on the metal calendar that you don't want to miss!

Dutch Symphonic-Power-Metallers EPICA do not require much of an introduction, as their name and reputation proceeds them beyond the European metal scene. This unique group fronted by the wildly-talented mezzo-soprano Simone Simmons has slowly garnered a devoted fanbase internationally since the release of their debut album, The Phantom Agony, in 2003. Since then, their sound has continued to expand, incorporating other elements from thrash, black and djent and further afield to folk influences from Celtic, Chinese, Arabic and ancient Mayan culture. Guitarist and band-founder Mark Jansen has already told Polish fans on social media that they will bring nothing less than their A-game!

A fixture of the European folk-metal scene, Finland's KORPIKLAANI continue to reign after 17 years as an active band. While most groups in the sub-genre tend to discover metal first and then take on a folk-bend as some sort of a gimmick, Korpiklaani is the result of the complete opposite. During the 1990s, frontman Jonne Järvelä founded the band Shamaani Duo and later Shaman, two purely-folk projects cultivating Sami music that has been living in the northern territories of Europe for millennia. To the complete shock of these groups' fanbase, the third iteration of Järvelä's project came as a conceptual question: What would happen if the ancient Sami began to play electric guitars?  Thus, in 2003, Korpiklaani was born! In Poland, they garnered a reputation thanks to their sensational performance on the Woodstock festival eleven years ago. Since then almost every concert tour of the band covers the areas around the Vistula and Oder!

This big-hitting double bill will be supported by Polish rock veterans ILLUSION. Formed in Gdańsk in 1992 and heavily-inspired by the American grunge movement, the group quickly took advantage of Poland's new-found political freedom and toured extensively throughout Europe. At the end of the 90s, as one of the biggest rock bands in Poland, decided to call it a day and were only occasionally heard of for the next 12 years. Fortunately for fans, they reformed in 2011 and have since released three more studio albums on top of their first five. They now enjoy a comfortable position of supporting major international acts as they come through Poland!
