Memorial to Slaughtered Animals

Popular with the little ones, and one of Wrocław's most photographed monuments, this barnyard menagerie is a bit more macabre than it may seem. The title refers to the fact that before ul. Jatki became a row of art galleries and souvenir stalls, this small medieval lane was the essentially the town's abattoir. The animals on display - a goose, goat, hare, two pigs, and a rooster - all routinely fell under the butcher's blade here, and this tourist attraction is actually a memorial to animal slaughter and a reminder of the street's history. Sculpted by Piotr Wieczorek and erected in the 1990s, the bronze monuments were all funded by the local government except for the cock, which was later paid for by the owner of the Pod Zielonym Kogutem restaurant. Nearby, you'll also find 'Rzeźnik' the butcher gnome, axe in hand and seemingly contemplating his grisly vocation.
