Natalia Lach-Lachowicz, a Polish artist known as Natalia LL, paints, photographs, draws, performs, and does video art. She is described as "a neglected early-1970s Polish-born pioneer of feminist avant-garde image making". Since 1975 she has been passionately engaged in the international feminist art movement. The exhibition States of Focus concentrates on the artist’s self-portraits, which she has been making since the beginning of her practice. The exhibition confronts her artworks, produced over the span of more than five decades, with works by over 40 artists from Poland and countries of the former Soviet Bloc. The invited artists investigate subjects such as objectification of the female body, scopophilia, emancipating vs. oppressive aspects of sexuality, narcissism, acceptable vs. unacceptable social roles, the right to self-determination and individual freedom.
