A tiny five table affair with hookah pipes, a revolving wheel of cakes, dimmed lighting and lots of pictures of Land Rover's conquering mountain ranges. It’s apparently popular with giggling girly nights, their hideous cackling no doubt abetted by the absinth on sale. [...]

For those unfamiliar with Klaus Kinski he’s a deceased actor known as much for his odd sexual appetite as for his one hundred plus films. He was born upstairs, and today his childhood home has been transformed to house Sopot’s most curious bar. Done out in lurid crimson features include spooky pictures of the man himself, a jumble sale collection of cinematic tat and an eerie black toilet. Don’t for a moment think you can get away with a soft drink; patrons here live every bit as hard as the man they emulate.

Apparently they've had a refit, though if you can spot the difference we'll buy you a whisky. Five tables and a loud TV decorate Sopot’s smallest bar, so even if there’s only three barflies propping it up, it’s going to feel like a jam-packed haven of hedonism. Worth visiting [...]

Sweep through the Grand Hotel’s fearsome lobby to reach a drinking space seemingly built for deal clinching drinks. An extravagant chandelier hangs from a ceiling painted with a giant sun, while dark woods and art deco lamps fill any space not occupied by armchairs. The only bad news is the view here; to see the ocean you’ll have to peer past tables of chewing, slobbering diners, which is every bit as lovely as it sounds.

When it opened Mandarynka became something of a headline hogger, attracting Z-list stars and Big Brother wannabes. Today its popularity with the airheads and the morons has cooled somewhat, giving all the more reason to reward it with custom. Thick, chunky candles, huge cushions and mandarin colours sweat off a welcoming glow, and on weekends DJs enter the doors to keep the crowd bouncing till the early hours.

A great network of crimson rooms inside a deliciously decadent seaside villa. Decorated with sofas and rugs each room promises new surprises, and as day fades into night find acid-jazz and funk pounding from the speakers as Papryka evolves into a quasi club. Keep an eye out for their Wednesday nights, when local-based American musician Glenn leads the party into the next day while playing funk classics. [...]

Sitting amid saws and other rusty utensils the cheeky liar who gave his name to this venue takes pride of place behind the bar. Bathed with warm lighting and floor to ceiling windows Pinokio attracts a mixed-aged crowd and boasts a plasma screen relaying sport from one end of the room. In summer the courtyard garden is a must-visit for those wanting to combine tanning with drinking. [...]

Sopot drinking doesn't get more leftfield than this. This place looks industrial and half-finished, but that's the look the owners want, and it's certainly worked in luring a weird crowd of media tarts, hipsters and other geek fashion types. Eclectic art displays, hundreds of crooked looking books and a rather nutty music policy make this one to track down, though not before you've dressed yourself in a tank top and silly looking hat.
