Opened in 1788, the Felix Meretis Society was a product of the Enlightenment and it strived to promote science, music, literature and the arts in general to create a better society. The grand building on the Keizersgracht is an incredible example of neoclassical architecture that includes a temple-like façade with four giant Corinthian pilasters. A concert hall, which is still in use today, and an observatory are also among its most important features. Today it’s known as the European Centre for Arts, Culture and Science and it still hosts various seminars, concerts and cultural events.
