Fine Dining in Košice

more than a year ago
You can’t beat a bit of fine dining. We can’t always afford it, but it is very easy to forget such things when you are surrounded the untouchable elegance and class of some top tier fine dining. Košice is a city that straddles the graceful and the gritty, so there are plenty of restaurants in which to use multiple pairs of cutlery as you cycle through the dishes. Yes, there is wine.

Le Colonial

A little bit of Parisian passion in the heart of Košice. Le Colonial might have a somewhat questionable name but there is nothing up for debate about the quality of the food and the elegance of the surroundings. A variety of international dishes fill the menu, from Indian curries to mighty steaks, with a stacked drinks list waiting to be explored. Le Colonial is particularly renowned for its fish dishes, so vegaquariums are in luck.

Diplomat

For the diplomat, find the ambassador. Okay, we could have conjured up something a little wittier than that, but we don’t want to joke around too much in such magnificent surroundings. Diplomat is one of the finest restaurants in town, both aesthetically and in terms of flavours, both Slovak and international. There are plenty of Slovak wines on the list too.

Rosto Steakhouse

A big ol’ chunk of steak might not necessarily be classified as ‘fine dining’, but the sheer magnificence of these cuts (and the prices) mean we’re going to throw it in there nonetheless. Found on a small street around the corner from Hlavna, Rosto Steakhouse is Košice’s premier church of meaty worship. The dry-aged steaks are a dream, but never underestimate the magic of a pastrami sandwich. Or say hell to the world and go for the mixed grill — you won’t regret it.

Slávia

An immensely popular cafe and restaurant in the very centre of Košice, Slávia has been enchanting visitors with its grace and sophistication for well over a century. This is a callback to the days of empire, and it isn’t difficult to image noblemen and women spending their afternoons here, sipping coffee in the morning before moving on to some truly extravagant dishes later in the day. The a la carte menu is one of the best in town.
