4. Downhill sledging everywhere and ice skating in the park
There are plenty of hills in Kassel and usually enough snowy days during winter. The most famous ride is the hill in front of the Schoss Wilhelmshöhe. The illuminated area is the perfect place to bring your Glühwein and try to avoid the trees at the end. If you do not want to bring food and drinks, try the smaller hill at the Herbsthäuschen and stop there for some "Apré-Sledge". Four artifical slides are placed in the Treppenstrasse, a 70 meter ride on sliding mats. With colder weather there are several spots in the Karlsaue Park and the Bergpark perfect for ice skating. The small lake Lac in Wilhelmshöhe and the all the moats down in the Auepark.
5. Visit the Kassel Stadtmuseum
With a rich and turbulent history and its 1.110 year history, Kassel has plenty of stories to tell. From the "Landgrafs" who have changed the landscape of the city, to its destruction in the last years of WWII. For the complete history summary, the Stadtmuseum is worth a visit. Do not miss the model of Old Kassel right after the devastating bombing raids, which is part of an expansive media installation of the permanent exhibition.6. Cozy Cafés and Restaurants
