A living Native American open-air museum, where history and legends come alive, this lively camp of tipis by the Danė River close to the town of Kretinga is run every summer by a local family obsessed by these colourful traditions. Named after Winnetou, a fictional Native American hero in novels written by German writer Karl May (1842-1912), it gives fun and informative sessions on if you’re passing one weekend you can just drop in. Face-painting, tom-tom drumming, archery, shooting and canoe rentals are among the activities, and there’s a fascinating little museum of genuine Native American paraphernalia too.
