Saints – Saviours in the Hour of Need

According to the medieval world of imagination, saints come to the aid of those in need, whatever the circumstances: Saint Barbara is the patron saint of tunnellers and miners, while Saint Anthony lends a helping hand when it comes to retrieving things lost or stolen. They provide protection from pestilence, war and famine, and their heroic deeds shine a light of hope and consolation. Even a fleeting glimpse of Saint Christopher has the potential to prevent sudden death. This exhibition presents an array of treasured statues of saints whose beauty and aura still have the power to captivate us today. The famous Palm Sunday donkey from Steinen, which dates back to the 11th century, is also on display.
