During summer, Šibenik becomes one of the Adriatic’s most vibrant cultural destinations. Between medieval stone streets, sea-view fortresses, and the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St. James, the city hosts a rich calendar of festivals blending contemporary art, music, film, literature, gastronomy, and Mediterranean lifestyle in unforgettable open-air settings.

Nights at St Michael’s Fortress

This summer’s programme at St. Michael's Fortress has already sold out several headline performances, including three nights by Robert Plant, both concerts by Skunk Anansie, and Wilco in September.

There are still a few unforgettable evenings left on the calendar. Soul icon Joss Stone performs on 15 July bringing her signature blend of soul, jazz, and R&B, followed by legendary downtempo collective Thievery Corporation on 22 and 23 July, while Chet Faker arrives on 28 July with his intimate mix of electronic music, indie, and soulful vocals. August continues with Tribute to The Purple One: Echoes of Prince on 13 August, followed by the popular 4 Tenora on 27 August. The season closes with SHIP Festival from 10 - 13 September, one of the region’s leading showcases of emerging artists, new music, industry panels, and late-night concerts spread across Šibenik’s historic venues.

What’s Happening at Martinska?

Just across the water from Šibenik, the pine-covered peninsula of Martinska has quietly evolved into one of the Adriatic’s most exciting alternative summer stages. Throughout July and August, the waterfront transforms into a laid-back mix of festivals, underground music culture, camping, and open-air nights beneath the stars all facing the illuminated skyline of Šibenik across the bay.

The season begins with Sea Sound Festival from 16 -19 July, bringing reggae, dub, bass, and electronic music to the pine forests and seaside stages of Martinska. Known for its custom-built sound systems, beach atmosphere, and relaxed camping culture, the gathering combines daytime swimming with long nights by the sea.
The energy intensifies during Martinska Punk Meets Žestoka Fešta (23 - 25 July), gathering regional punk, hardcore, sludge, and alternative acts in one of Croatia’s rawest underground music settings. This year’s lineup is headlined by legendary British punk band GBH and New York hardcore pioneers Cro-Mags, joined by regional favourites including Nula, PuP grupa, Bongorodica, Scuffy Dogs, Sveto Dalmatinski, Novi normalni, Kriva Istina, Stratus, Nikola’s Cage, and Zimogroz.
Underground bass culture continues on 30 July with Membrain Pulse, a one-day gathering focused on deep electronic sounds and intimate seaside sessions.
The programme then shifts toward hip-hop and urban culture during Preach the Rič on 7 - 8 August, bringing regional rap artists, DJs, graffiti, and street culture into Šibenik’s Mediterranean summer atmosphere.
Among the standout standalone concerts, Croatian rapper Kandžija performs on 31 July with material from his acclaimed album Trostruki salto, while Ana Paška premieres Salon za uljepšavanje duše on 4 August, an experimental multimedia performance blending music, theatre, and storytelling.
Electronic nights continue with Slurp! Summer Clubbing on 1 August, while ŠI Gitarijada expands into a two-day celebration of regional guitar bands and alternative music from 5 - 6 August, further confirming Martinska as one of the Adriatic’s most diverse summer musi

The Festival Edit

The season opens with the legendary International Children’s Festival Šibenik from 13 - 27 June. Founded in 1958, it remains one of Croatia’s most important cultural events for children and young audiences, transforming the old town into a lively stage filled with theatre, music, workshops, film, and street performances. One of its most atmospheric segments is the Bokun Festival, dedicated to silent cinema accompanied by live music performances beneath the summer sky.

The internationally acclaimed Šibenik Dance Festival (13 - 18 July) transforms fortresses, squares, and historic landmarks into spectacular open-air stages for contemporary dance. This year’s grand opening ceremony features Dervish in Progress by Turkish artist Ziya Azazi in front of the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St. James, alongside international performances, workshops, and site-specific productions across the city.
One of the festival highlights takes place at St. Michael's Fortress with Mit Herz und Verstand, a three-part ballet evening by Ballet Staatstheater Cottbus featuring choreographies by Cayetano Soto and Mauro Bigonzetti. The festival closes 18 July in Vodice at the Centre for Culture with Spanish guest performances Impostor by Thomas Noone Dance and A beginning #16161D by Aurora Bauzà Company.

Animation and visual storytelling take centre stage during the Supertoon International Animation and Comics Festival from 20 - 24 July. With more than 200 animated films, comic exhibitions, workshops, and open-air screenings across hidden squares and stone streets, Supertoon has become one of the Adriatic’s most distinctive summer events.
Film lovers can continue the cinematic atmosphere at the Croatian International Film Festival from 24 - 27 July. Often described as the “Hollywood of the Adriatic,” the festival connects filmmakers, actors, and audiences through screenings, industry panels, and red-carpet evenings staged in some of Šibenik’s most striking historic locations.

Music remains deeply woven into the city’s identity, especially during Večeri dalmatinske šansone on 21 - 22 August. Held beside the cathedral on Trg Republike Hrvatske, the festival celebrates the poetry and romance of Dalmatian chanson through elegant open-air performances in one of the Adriatic’s most atmospheric settings.

From 27 - 30 August, the Croatian Travel Festival gathers travellers, photographers, filmmakers, and storytellers sharing experiences from around the world through lectures, exhibitions, and documentary screenings.
Early autumn brings the return of FALIŠ – Festival of the Alternative and the Left from 3 - 5 September. Known for its open-air debates, lectures, concerts, and discussions on contemporary social and cultural topics, FALIŠ has grown into one of the region’s most distinctive intellectual gatherings.
The cultural season concludes with the intimate ŠKURE Festival from 17–19 September. Dedicated to literature, poetry, music, and Mediterranean creativity, the festival brings together writers, artists, and audiences inside the atmospheric streets and cultural venues of Šibenik’s old town.
