Camille Saint-Saëns, a French composer of the Romantic period, was extremely prolific and composed works in nearly every musical genre. His best-known work is Le Carnaval des Animaux (The Carnival of the Animals), which the composer regarded as a piece of fun, initially created for his students. Saint-Saëns amusingly portrays different animals through the use of the different instruments alone and in combination with each other. Interestingly enough, The Carnival of the Animals has since become one of Saint-Saëns's best-known works, played by the original eleven instruments, or more often with the full string section of an orchestra. Wrocław's performance is choreographed by Anna Hop.
