Found some 160km northwest of Wroclaw and 170km southwest of Poznan, Zagan (Polish Żagań, German Sagan) is an interesting little town, remarkable in modern times as the site of one of the most celebrated prison breakouts ever - The Great Escape. Although not the easiest place to reach by public transport from either of those cities, it is easily accessible by road and has a number of other points of interest in addition to its star attraction, the remains of Stalag Luft III, now the home of the Prisoner of War Camp Museum.
