Welcome Home

Warszawa Gdańska ,   Żoliborz         more than a year ago
Created in 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the events of March 1968 when the Communist authorities of Poland orchestrated an antisemitic campaign following anti-government protests led by students, workers and intelligentsia seeking more freedoms. Between 1968-72 around 13,000 Polish Jews emigrated following various forms of harassment and losing their jobs. The mural was created by the Klamra Foundation and POLIN museum to commemorate the events of 1968; those shown on the murals are Ida Kamińska (actress, director), Anna Frajlich-Zając (poet, writer), Alina Margolis-Edelman (nurse, former Ghetto Uprising fighter), Marian Eile (Journalist), Jerzy Lipman (Director) and Zygmunt Bauman (Sociologist and Philosopher). The last name angered certain groups due to his role in the communist-era security services in post-war Poland and his mural has since been defaced.
