more than a year ago

How did you become a concierge at Hotel Arka?
Ten years ago I started working at Hotel Arka as front desk receptionist. The fact that I love working in hospitality made me more devoted in my work, and after two years I got promotion at my current position as Guest Care.

What's your favourite part of the job?
Given the responsibilities for my current position, I love my contact with our guests, ensuring and providing upscale and professional guest service experience, responding to guest needs and anticipating their unstated ones.

Are you from Skopje?
Yes, I was born and raised in Skopje.

What's one Macedonian dish that every visitor to Skopje should try?
The famous Turlitava. The various types of meat and vegetables baked in pottery dish, gives a unique gastronomic experience.

Best restaurant for a business lunch?
I recommend Pelister, nice spacious place, located on the main square, is very easy to find and has wonderful cuisine.

And a romantic dinner?
With its intimate ambient, near the city centre, Vodenica still gives you the privacy needed. Their delicious food and wine varieties will swoop you off your feet, and your significant other as well.

Where can we get a great cocktail?
Definitely Cocktail Bar. Nice and cosy place, with world class cocktails. Highly recommended.

From visiting one of our museums to shopping, bowling, indoor pool, there are a lot interesting things you can try.

Best souvenir from Skopje?
Our unique handmade Filigran. Whether it's a broach for women or shirt cuffs for men, framed in different types for family members, it is wonderful souvenir that you can have from Skopje.

What are some of the most unusual requests you've had to deal with?
Given the location of Hotel Arka, here in the Old Bazaar some of the oldest mosques in Skopje are located. They are all open, so through speakers you can hear the morning or evening prayer. One of our guests had requested to relocate the mosques. Or the hotel.

Five most useful Macedonian words for tourists?
If must be only five, then: rakija, kafana, denar, pazar, ajvar.

What's one insider tip about Skopje that our readers would be surprised to know?
Skopje is unique by itself, but I think that is nice to know that is also very cheap, so you can have local beer for only €2.
