It is the seventh feast in the series of concerts that has been launched by Mindaugas Bačkus, artistic director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, in January 2016. “A Feast of the Harpsichord” honours the instrument that was at the height of popularity during the Renaissance and Baroque eras. It was brought to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th century where it was usually played by foreign musicians in the court chapels owned by the royal family and the nobility. Poet and priest Kristijonas Donelaitis (1714‒1780) was also known for playing and making harpsichords at his leisure.
