The Klaipėda Brass Quintet, under the artistic leadership of Sigitas Petrulis, invited two young percussionists, Sigitas Gailius and Andrius Rekašius, who have been educated in Klaipėda and then moved on to build their careers in Vilnius, to work on this programme together. Sigitas graduated from the Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts, while Andrius studied at the Stasys Šimkus Conservatory, before they went on to complete their Master’s degrees at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius and at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, respectively. They both currently hold orchestral positions: Sigitas plays with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, and Andrius with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. And what’s more, they are both members of the Giunter Percussion ensemble. Together with this ensemble they have travelled many countries, with appearances at various festivals abroad and at home, including regular visits to Klaipėda. Quite recently, Sigitas has been appointed Assistant at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Andrius is not only a performer but also a composer.
