Vineyard Pod Winną Górą

  ul. Portowa 44, Cigacice      (+48) 50 714 84 77     more than a year ago
The Pod Winną Górą Vineyard of vintner-power-couple Marzena and Tytus Fokszan is a revival of old traditions and culture that have accompanied this area for centuries. The sun, river and sands are something of a holy trinity in these lands, that, combined with the amen of unique climate and geographic conditions, has produced some of the best wine in Europe. The winery's home of Cigacice and the neighbouring villages of Górki Małe and Górzykowo were the region's go-to places for recreation and leisure with numerous cafes, restaurants, boating and observation towers, during the interwar period. However, it was (and still is) the ubiquitous vineyards that define the landscape of the region, and this particular location, close to the border of Górki Małe (ENG: Little Hills), was locally known as Pod Winną Górą (ENG: Under the Wine Mountain). Thus, reviving this namesake seemed rather appropriate for the Fokszans!

Like other knowledgable Lubuskie vintners, both old and new, the owners have positioned their vines on the southern slope of their estate for optimal sunlight. It also gives a great view of the Oder river port area, as well as a rather romantic view of the old church tower and other buildings in the nearby village. Next to the vineyard, guests can enjoy the covered outdoor space for events such as wine tasting with an accompaniment of local cheese and bread. Prices start from 30zł - 40zł per person, with the possibility of also requesting a meal to the wine tasting for an additional cost. Prior reservation is required for these activities. There is also a small playground for children and a relaxation area. Although there is no accommodation on-site, guests can either stay in a nearby hotel or simply bring a tent or caravan and sleep on the winery grounds. A short walk from the site, you have the option of taking a river cruise from the Odra Tourist Port in Cigacice. The Lubuskie Trail of Wine and Honey runs through the Sulechów municipality, where you can visit other wineries and curiosities. There are also reinforced concrete bunkers from WWII on the Oder Line, the so-called Oderstellung.
