Slovenia's history of apiculture, or beekeeping for those not familiar with the technical terminology, is one of the most storied not only in all of Europe, but the entire world, with the 18th-century apiarist Anton Janša commonly referred to as the Father of Modern beekeeping. This is good information to pass along when you give someone a sweet gift from Medičar in Svečar (or literally Honey Seller and Candlemaker in English), such as a candle made from beeswax, a traditional gingerbread heart (both edible and ornamental varieties) or plain old honey itself. The small shop can be found on the south side of Glavni Trg, directly opposite the Plague Column.
