Located directly opposite the cathedral on Slomšek Square, the university building is a palatial structure that was originally a bank. Though the façade has been preserved in its entirety, the interior and the courtyard were completely renovated between 1995 and 2000. The University of Maribor is Slovenia's second most important university and delivers courses to some 24,000 students.
